Colin Simpson, Education Technologist, Monash Education Innovation Team, Monash University
Colin has worked as a Learning Technologist, Education Designer and Academic Developer since 2003 at the Canberra Institute of Technology, ANU, Swinburne University and at Monash since May 2019.
Colin is an enthusiastic advocate of Technology Enhanced Learning and Teaching (TELT) and works to support opportunities for teachers to create better learning experiences for their students with technology.
Colin is a founder and co-convenor of ASCILITE TELedvisors (educator advisors) network, an Australasian community of practice for learning designers, learning technologists and academic developers with more than 500 members.
Colin is currently undertaking PhD research at the University of Sydney investigating strategies to enhance the collaborative working relationships between edvisors, academics and management in Higher Education. Colin tweets as @gamerlearner and blogs about TELT at http://screenface.net
Dr Srecko Joksimovic, Senior Lecturer at Education Futures, University of South Australia
Srecko’s research is centred around augmenting abilities of individuals to solve complex problems in collaborative settings. Specifically, he is interested in evaluating the influence of contextual, social, cognitive, and affective factors on groups and individuals as they solve real-world problems.
In his research, Srecko uses and adapts a wide range of methods from machine learning, AI, and natural language processing, as well as data science. He has been the recipient of education grants from the CRCP ($1.5M AUD) and has worked on largescale projects about education technology and student engagement. Srecko is also recognised by the Australian as a Rising Star in educational technology research and practice.
Dr Cathy Stone, Conjoint Associate Professor, School of Humanities and Social Science, University of Newcastle
Cathy is an independent consultant and researcher in the field of post-secondary student equity, retention and success, with a research focus on improving the online student experience. She is a Conjoint Associate Professor with the School of Humanities & Social Science at the University of Newcastle and an Adjunct Research Fellow with the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE) at Curtin University. Cathy has worked for many years in developing and managing student support and success programs in both on-campus and online university environments, as well as researching ways these can be improved.
As an inaugural Equity Fellow with the NCSEHE in 2016, Cathy undertook a national research project aimed at improving outcomes for online students. The findings from this research informed a set of National Guidelines for Improving Student Outcomes in Online Learning. Associate Professor Chi Baik, Deputy Director Melbourne Centre for the Study of Higher Education | Graduate School of Education, University of Melbourne.
Chi’s research focuses on examining the factors affecting the experiences and educational outcomes of diverse students in higher education. She has led major national projects on the first-year experience, student mental wellbeing, and internationalisation of the curriculum.
