Abstract
The 'General Instruction of the Roman Missal' (GIRM 2002) continues the pattern established in its first edition of 1969, at the time of the release of the 'Order of Mass'. GIRM clarifies the meaning and purpose of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the uniquely Christian development from the actions of Christ described in the Synoptic Gospels, in the institution narratives, as well as St Paul's account in Chapter 11 of his First Letter to the Corinthians.
