About This Journal

Pastoral Liturgy was originally conceived by Dr Russell Hardiman, a priest, academic and previous employee of NDA, who began compiling a resource for liturgy in Australia in 1970. Up until 2020 Pastoral Liturgy was a print journal that was sent from the School of Philosophy and Theology in Fremantle to subscribers nationally and internationally via Australia Post. Over time, it has attracted significant use. Evidence suggests that it is found to be invaluable, not only for its liturgical content, but also for educating those involved in catechesis and Religious Education. Currently listed on the Theology Dean’s list for ERA, Notre Dame seeks to maintain the status of this journal in both the researcher and religious communities. The value of the proposed project to move the journal online is that it will create efficiencies in the editorial process, journal management and administration, distribution and promotion. It will make the content more easily accessible to readers, free to all previous subscribers, and will potentially attract a wider readership nationally and internationally. Further, in utilising the University repository publishing platform, the journal will be seen to be affiliated with the University’s mission, allow data and metrics to be gathered around downloads, page views and citations, easily identify growth and geographic distribution of readership, and enable cost-efficiencies.
