Description
Dahl, a young Norwegian naturalist, arrived in Broome in 1895, and left a valuable legacy for local history and for environmental history in his 1926 book, In Savage Australia. In this talk we explore the reasons for Dahl’s visit, the ecology of the country around Hill Station at the turn of the century, and what that can tell us about attitudes to the environment, then and now. His observations can be cross-referenced to those of Paddy Roe, Joss Harman and others.
