Description
When embarking on a research degree we often have a particular goal or outcome in mind for what we hope to achieve at the end. Sometimes we strive towards milestones and timelines to get to the end goal (and on budget), but at what cost to our partnerships and relationships with community? Sometimes the discipline emphasises particular research methods and processes, but this may not always be appropriate to the context. Is there a way to be more flexible in our processes when community relationships and respect depend on this? This panel discussion will involve researchers who, in completing their PhDs, learnt to slow down, listen, shift focus, or even scrap the project’s direction entirely for the sake of a research process that better values Indigenous voices and world views.
