“Kimberley Right Way Research – Which Way, Now?”

Daniel Oades, Kimberley Land Council

Description

The History of Indigenous people working with research has often led to a power dynamic heavily weighted in the favour of institutions and researchers to lead the conversation and topics covered. Indigenous led research priorities that have been developed with community fulfil the cultural obligation to land and sea country and their supportive organisations. In this presentation I will focus on the development of better practice research relationships, governance and how longer ongoing partnership agreements could be achieved. I will draw upon positive examples which will include the Kimberley Indigenous Saltwater Advisory Group (ISWAG) and other traditional owner led projects.
