Abstract

Two students from The University of Notre Dame Australia Broome Campus touch football team have won awards during the Broome Touch Association’s presentation night.

Sophie Harrison and Trevor Iga won the female and male most valuable player awards for the Social A grade. The male MVP has now been won by a Hunchback player for three consecutive seasons and the dual awards were a fitting way to end the season.

The Hunchbacks finished top of the table, but lost the grand final by a point for the third time in a row. In what has now become a tradition come finals time, a number of The Hunchbacks team were unable to play due to their practical placement commitments, including two working with the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The team eventually lost the game to the Wanabes 5-4 after playing with only one substitute. It was a gallant performance from the team, particularly the female players who had to play the entire match without a break.

The Hunchbacks will now look to make it fourth time lucky when the new season begins in March.
