Abstract
This article discusses the rights of persons with disabilities with a specific focus on the potential impact of legislation and judicial decisions on community perceptions of the value of the lives of persons with disabilities. It assesses how successful the law has been in affirming the value of persons with disabilities through focusing on some recent cases, bills and legislation concerning the rights of persons with disabilities. Some recommendations for improvement have been made in those areas where it is concluded that the human rights and inherent dignity of persons with disabilities have not been adequately promoted.
