Abstract

The University of Notre Dame Australia's Sydney School of Law would like to congratulate the Honorable Justice Margaret Beazley AO, on her appointment as President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal.

Justice Beazley is the first woman to be appointed to the position, one of the highest in the New South Wales justice system, 16 years after she was appointed the Court's first female judge.

During her distinguished career, Justice Beazley has served on the benches of the Federal Court of Australia, the Industrial Relations Court of Australia, the District Court of New South Wales and the ACT Supreme Court. Among many other positions in the legal profession, she has served on the Equal Opportunity Tribunal and worked as Assistant Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Justice Beazley has been a Lecturer at Notre Dame's Sydney School of Law and remains on the School of Law Advisory Board.

Justice Beazley will be sworn in as President of the Court of Appeal on 1 March 2013.
