Abstract

Over 130 students and young professionals attended the first Love and Responsibility event for 2012, where they discussed a section of Blessed Pope John Paul II on current attitudes towards chastity.

Jessica Langrell, Student Chaplaincy Convenor at the University of Notre Dame Australia, Sydney Campus, said the team was impressed at the turnout for the event.

“We handed out over 90 fliers, sold 20 books and several people brought their own copies of Men, Women and the Mystery of Love,” Ms Langrell said.

“It was great to see so many new faces on the night and to welcome back familiar faces too.”

Chantal Khoury, a student leader at this year’s Love and Responsibility said the event appealed to young people because of the important discussions they can have with their peers in a supportive environment.

“Love and Responsibility is such a relaxing, easygoing evening where your ideas are suddenly brought to life among many other teenagers and young adults who live and breathe the same fast-paced existence,” Ms Khoury said.

“Love and Responsibility is about your ideas, your thoughts, your philosophies, your opinions. I never thought I could grasp so much by just chilling out with an awesome bunch of people, and discussing important topics.”

Love and Responsibility is a weekly event that will be held each Tuesday until 24 April, excluding 10 April. All young people are welcome at the event, which begins at the University of Notre Dame Australia’s Broadway Courtyard from 6.00pm.
