Abstract

As from 2008, The University of Notre Dame Australia will offer a Double Degree between the Bachelor of Physiotherapy and the Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science.

The double degree structure was recently approved by the Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC), which is the accrediting body for all physiotherapy programs across Australia. It will supplement the fully accredited Bachelor of Physiotherapy but will run within the existing structure and student numbers of the physiotherapy program so as to maintain the University’s personal approach to education. This 5-year double degree is unique to Notre Dame and is only one of two universities within Australia to offer this opportunity.

It is ideally suited to students interested in adding the specialised knowledge and skills gained from the exercise and sports sciences to those acquired from the physiotherapy program. The combination of the two degrees will have more focus on exercise physiology, sports biomechanics, exercise prescription for special populations, as well as an emphasis on prevention of illness, disease and injury.
