Abstract

In a ceremony celebrated by the Archbishop of Perth, the Most Rev Barry Hickey ordained four students from The University of Notre Dame Australia Fremantle as priests.

Bachelor of Theology graduates, Fr Ernesto Cerutti and Fr Marnoel Lopes Borges, were ordained, as were Behavioural Science students, Fr George James and Fr Arnel Taracine. Another Theology student, Pavol Herda was ordained a deacon.

The ceremony took place at the Infant Jesus Parish Church in Morley and was attended by over 800 people, including 80 priests and three bishops.

After the ordination, Archbishop Hickey urged the new Priests to have special concern for young people, celebrate the Mass properly and to be ‘priests primarily of service.’

Fr Arnel said he had a mixture of feelings about being ordained. “I was really excited, nervous and afraid. I know that this will entail a lot of hard work and dedication, especially leading people towards holiness.

“I am also extremely happy and optimistic. I know God will continue to guide me and give me all His grace, because He called me to this kind of vocation. As long as I am happy to experience God in this way of life, I will dedicate myself to him,” said Dr Arnel.
