Abstract

A group of Business students at The University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle have been commended for their professional placement work at Lotterywest - Western Australia’s official state lottery.

For their Market Research Unit, students, Tom Francis, Claire Ingham, Patrick Matan and Adam Austin were asked to conduct research into customer opinions and reactions to new promotion techniques at the organisation.

The students were originally given a large amount of qualitative data, gathered from store owners. From this they developed a questionnaire, investigated the issues highlighted and drew up their report, focussing largely on customer buying behaviour and brand recognition.

Manager of sales and development at Lotterywest, Trish Rechichi, said the group’s work was very impressive.

“All members of the group were extremely professional, accommodating, showed strong understanding of the brief, were well presented and had a high level of communication skills.

“We were so impressed with their work, we got much more than expected and plan to apply and use the students’ findings. Lotterywest would like to keep this group in mind when we need to conduct further research,” said Ms Rechichi.

Student, Tom Francis, said the students really enjoyed taking part in a real-world example of market research.

“The whole experience was very professional and Lotterywest seemed to really value the work we carried out for them. They seemed blown away with how seriously we were taking the assignment.

“Collectively our group wanted to make a significant achievement with our research and to leave a good impression,” said Mr Francis.
