Abstract
The University of Notre Dame’s Broome Campus touch football team, the Hunchbacks, won their way into the grand final of the Broome Touch Association Summer competition after a thrilling win in the preliminary final.
The Hunchbacks beat the previously undefeated Rising Stars 6-5, to progress to the prestigious grand final in their very first season.
The side comprising Broome Campus staff and students shocked their highly rated opponents in the first half taking a 4-0 lead into the break.
With several key players participating in placements throughout the Kimberley the Hunchbacks squad was stretched once again and in the humid conditions the shortage of substitutions began to tell.
But in a courageous team effort the Hunchbacks defended admirably and scored two vital tries to halt the Rising Starsmomentum and seal the historic win.
The team, and what is expected to be a very vocal cheer squad, will now head to Male Oval, Broome for the Grand Final on December 2.
