Abstract

Two students from the School of Arts and Sciences at The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Sydney Campus have been awarded a Study Abroad Scholarship for their academic achievements and commitment to internationally representing the University.

The Scholarship was initiated by the School to financially help and reward high achieving students participating in Notre Dame’s Study Abroad Program.

Communication student Victoria Sommella and Politics and International Relations student, Vincent Meney have received $2500 each for the semester they will spend studying in America.

Victoria will be attending Boston College in Massachusetts for the first half of 2010 and says she is very grateful to the University for their support.

“This scholarship will allow me the opportunity to experience things I wouldn’t have been able to previously. I am really looking forward to my semester in Boston, both academically and socially.”

Vince will be studying at the University of San Francisco in California and says he chose to participate in the Study Abroad program as it offers a unique opportunity to enhance his understanding of foreign cultures.

“I thought studying in San Francisco would be a great chance to build career prospects by giving me some international experience, particularly as I am majoring in International Relations.

I believe this scholarship is great for Arts and Science students. Studying abroad can be very expensive and it is a good initiative by the School to provide financial help and make the program accessible to more students who really want to do it,” said Vincent.

The Executive Dean of Arts and Sciences and Academic Coordinator of Study Abroad, Professor Gerry Turcotte, commented, “This scholarship is an exciting initiative that rewards two well-deserving students who will be outstanding ambassadors for The University of Notre Dame Australia. We hope that this is the first of many such opportunities.”
