Abstract

The University of Notre Dame Australia has appointed Sister Sonia Wager SGS as Dean of the Broome Campus. She will be its academic leader and will join the Academic Council of the University.

Sr Sonia recently completed a twelve-year term of office as Superior General of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan, one of the largest and most significant religious orders in the Australian Church. She has been a trustee and Governor of Notre Dame since it began, and has been Deputy Chancellor since 1992. Sr Sonia has an extensive array of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications from Australian and American universities, including a Doctorate from the Chicago Theological Seminary in the United States. She has had an extraordinary range of experience in education and management, and is one of the outstanding women of the Australian Church, recognised widely for her leadership qualities, judgement, and pastoral commitment. Notre Dame is delighted that she has been willing to accept an appointment as Dean of the Broome Campus and a Professor of the University for a five-year term, commencing 1 July 2006.

The second appointment approved by the Board is that of Executive Director of the Broome Campus, Mr Gavin Greaves. Gavin has made an outstanding contribution to the Campus as Director since he took up his position late in 2004. He will be responsible for managing much of the daily life of the Campus and will report to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Peter Dallimore.
