Abstract
The University is pleased that the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) Report identified the key strength of Notre Dame as being its commitment to and achievement of excellent teaching and its commitment to the pastoral care of its students. The University isalso delighted with the endorsement of its unique multifaceted admissions process – a process which focuses on the individual.
The University is also satisfied with the affirmations of the panel, given they reflect issues which had already been self identified as challenges and issues to address - and the addressing of which had already commenced.
The University takes on board the recommendations of the Report and agrees with the Report’s comments regarding the need to build a research culture at the University. As the Report itself notes, the University is still comparatively young and the building of a research culture takes time. The University is slightly disappointed that while the AUQA Report acknowledged the age of the University it did not fully recognise the transitional position of the University at this point in time and the fact that such transition takes time if quality is to be guaranteed.
On the whole, there is nothing in the Report which surprises the University and to that end, the University believes the self-review process and panel visit was a very useful exercise.
