Abstract

Former Notre Dame student, Louisa Di Pietro, describes being presented with the School of Business' 2010 Emerging Marketer of the Year Prize, sponsored by the Australian Marketing Institute, as the biggest award she has won and “a really nice surprise”.

Ms Di Pietro won the prize for her excellent academic achievement in marketing and public relations.

The 23-year-old graduated from The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Fremantle Campus in December 2010 with a double degree in Marketing and Public Relations and Behavioural Science.

Wanting to enter into the health sector early in her school life, a trip overseas after her Year 12 exams convinced Ms Di Pietro to change her career aspirations to public relations.

Ms Di Pietro’s enthusiasm to understand the complexities of the human makeup resulted in her choosing to add the Behavioural Science component to her degree, saying it gave her a good insight into workplace issues.

Ms Di Pietro found the Notre Dame learning experience to be valuable in more ways than one as the internship she undertook as part of her double degree resulted in a job offer with one of Australia’s largest public relations firms.

Now into her fourth month working at Professional Public Relations’ Subiaco office – a company that boasts an illustrious client base including LandCorp, Emirates Airlines and McDonald’s – Ms Di Pietro says receiving the award, in collaboration with her studies at Notre Dame, has opened doors in her professional life.

“As a result of the award, the Australian Marketing Institute have given me an associate membership for a year so I’m finding out about seminars and opportunities for young professionals like me,” Ms Di Pietro said.

“I love being in a professional setting where everyone is working towards the same goal and everyone is really driven in their careers.

“Notre Dame helped me prepare for my professional career with plenty of group assignments and teaching me the ethical side of business through my Behavioural Science degree which I value.”
