Abstract

The Hon Mark McGowan MLA, Minister for Education and Training; South West, has appointed Notre Dame’s Dean of the School of Nursing, Professor Selma Alliex, as a member of the Challenger Tafe Governing Council.

The Council, as the governing body of Challenger TAFE, oversees the strategic directions and financial management for the provision of vocational education and training.

The Council is a 'body corporate', with the power to do all that is necessary to fulfil its functions under the VET Act. It is a self-governing statutory authority. Professor Alliex teaches in the undergraduate and postgraduate program in the School as well as supervises higher degree students.

Her area of expertise is nursing education and qualitative research. She has worked in all areas of nursing and has current nursing experience as a Community Health Nurse.

Professor Alliex said that she was delighted to accept the appointment.

“I feel privileged and humbled by the opportunity to serve as a Governing Council member of Challenger TAFE.The nature of education is changing rapidly and becoming more and more seamless. As education providers we need to be able to offer opportunities that will make the transition from the VET sector to the Higher Education sector a smooth one. I believe that my appointment will contribute towards strengthening partnerships with other education providers in the area.”
