Abstract
Theology student, Pavol Herda, joined the growing number of Notre Dame Bachelor of Theology graduates who have been ordained as priests when he was ordained by Archbishop Barry Hickey on June 6 at St Joseph’s Church in Subiaco.
Originally from Slovakia, Fr Herda moved to Australia in 2003 at the invitation of Monsignor Sean O’Shea, who had visited the seminary in Bratislava where Fr Herda was studying philosophy and psychology.
He began his degree at Notre Dame in 2004 and completed it in 2006. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Theology course.
A Thanksgiving Mass was held in his honour at the Thornlie Church with over 800 parishioners attending.
Archbishop Hickey said, "Fr Herda has entered a job with an awesome responsibility, as one who stands in the footsteps of Christ to free people of their troubles and to lead people to love God and one another.”
The Archbishop will accompany him to his home village of Cierne Klacany on June 28 for another Thanksgiving Mass.
