Abstract

The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Sydney Campus today welcomed more than 150 prospective students and their families for an information day, providing campus tours, the opportunity to speak with staff and currently enrolled students and to make last minute changes to their university preferences.

School leavers from Catholic, independent and state schools across the Sydney metropolitan area turned up to learn more about what Notre Dame has to offer.

Recent school leavers from Nagle College in Blacktown, Sheridan Barrett, Jenna Embleton and Marina Brizar (all 18 years) were amongst the visitors to the campus. All three had submitted an application for enrolment and came along to find more information and get a feel for campus life. Sheridan is hoping to study communications, Jenna is hoping to study arts and/or education and Marina hopes to gain entry to the arts/law course at Notre Dame.

Comments from prospective students were universally positive. “This is a great chance to get a feel for the small and friendly Notre Dame experience,” said Marina. “I had the opportunity to see the campus buildings and lecture rooms and to speak with staff about the arts/law course.”

“The atmosphere was welcoming and enabled me to ask questions. It definitely feels more personal,” added Sheridan.

Jenna was pleased to get a clearer idea of the differences between course areas. “It will make the whole process seem a little less daunting knowing what I know from today,” she said.

Organisers of the day saw it as a great opportunity to showcase the Notre Dame approach to university learning within a context of Catholic faith and values. “It is also a good opportunity to get to know some of the students who will be enrolling later this month. We noticed a good mix of prospective students across all course areas.” said Prospective Student Adviser Tristan Liles.

Laura Patrick added, “Staff members were really impressed with the levels of enthusiasm amongst the visitors. We will be spending the few days processing all of the applications and changes of preference we received today, with plans to make late round offers in the next fortnight.”

Notre Dame’s Sydney Campus was established in 2006 at Broadway and is expecting approximately 1750 students to enrol at Broadway and the new campus at Darlinghurst this year.
