Abstract

To celebrate the first anniversary of World Youth Day (WYD) 2008 The University of Notre Dame Australia, Sydney joined the Archdiocese in commemorating the event at the inaugural congress – SCENE.

SCENE, or Sydney Congress Embracing the New Evangelisation, was organised by the Sydney Archdiocese to celebrate and develop the graces received during WYD.

The week long event was held all around the city and involved bishops, priests, religious, teachers, young people and families, coming together from around Australia for prayer, catechism, workshops and testimonies.

The University operated a stall at the Vocations Expo in Martin Place where Congress delegates and passers-by were able to make enquiries and receive information about UNDA.

Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Hayden Ramsay, presented a workshop entitled the Reasonableness of Faith and a number of Notre Dame students volunteered for SCENE and were highly involved in all the activities of the week including the Vocations Expo, Workshops and Pub Talks.

Notre Dame Convenor of Chaplaincy services, Anthony Gordon, said it was great to see so many staff and students from the University participate at various events throughout the Congress.

“The SCENE Congress has been a great success with large numbers attending a variety of events. It was a fitting way to mark the anniversary of WYD Sydney with young people celebrating their Catholic Faith in word and song at places all around the city,” said Mr Gordon.
