Abstract

The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Fremantle Campus has been the home for a week-long creative workshop for the Jandamarra Returns Tour.

In 2008 Bunuba films, in partnership with the Black Swan Theatre Company, presented the premier season of the Jandamarra stage play to sell out audiences at the Perth International Arts Festival. Bunuba Films is now planning to take the show ‘home’ to the Kimberley in 2010. The workshop held at the University is part of the redevelopment process.

Ms June Oscar, CEO of the Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre (and graduate of Notre Dame) is the Bunuba Films company director, project linguist and cultural adviser.

Ms Oscar met with Vice Chancellor, Professor Celia Hammond, while she was on Campus. During their meeting they discussed various possibilities and options that Notre Dame, and in particular the Broome Campus, could possibly provide in Fitzroy Crossing.

“June’s work in Fitzroy Crossing, her passion and drive are truly inspirational. We are very interested in working with community and other providers to provide educational avenues in Fitzroy Crossing.

Ms Oscar also welcomed the opportunity to work with Notre Dame.
