Abstract
Professor Jan Thomas has been appointed as Deputy Vice Chancellor of The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Fremantle Campus.
Vice Chancellor, Professor Celia Hammond announced her appointment which will also see her overseeing the University’s Research, Quality and Academic Development as from August 2010.
“Professor Thomas has a long and distinguished academic career at Murdoch University where she has spent the last seven years as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic),” said Professor Hammond.
“Prior to her appointment as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Thomas worked as an academic in the School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences. ”
In addition to her senior leadership responsibilities at Murdoch University, Professor Thomas has been actively engaged with the higher education sector for the last ten years.
Most recently, she has been a member of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations expert working group, developing performance indicators which will be measured and reported in university compacts with the Commonwealth government. She is also an active auditor with the Australian Universities Quality Agency and a number of other international audit agencies.
“Professor Thomas’ leadership and commitment to higher education has been recognised through numerous grants, awards and prizes in her career,” said Professor Hammond.
“She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has been actively involved in community service, having spent ten years as a Director and Member of the Board of Governance for MercyCare.
“We are absolutely delighted Professor Thomas will be joining us at Notre Dame.”
