Abstract
More than half of the children not attending primary school are girls, and two-thirds of the hundreds of millions of adults unable to read or write are women.
Caritas Australia believes that all children should be allowed to reach their full potential and women should have the same rights as men.
But gender equality and the empowerment of women is a much broader issue than parity in education, employment opportunities and political participation. Equal access to health, social protection and development opportunities are all critical to tackling poverty.
A country's sustainable growth and development can only come about when ALL are empowered to participate fully in ALL matters that affect their lives. [Excerpt from Blueprint for a Better World website]
'Promote Gender Equality' was filmed and produced by John Reed, Lecturer in Communications at the University of Notre Dame Australia, for Caritas Australia.
