Abstract

Staff and students of The University of Notre Dame Australia's Fremantle Campus will join with members of the community to celebrate Easter in what has become a valued tradition for the University.

Each year, Notre Dame hosts a special Stations of the Cross service which follows the fourteen Stations depicting the significant events in the last days of Jesus' life.

The unique bronze Stations displayed in the courtyards of the Fremantle Campus were a gift from the late Diane Wansbrough, a Governor of the University, and created by one of Australia's foremost contemporary artists, Peter Schipperheyn.

Campus Minister, Karl Brown, says "The Stations of the Cross are a wonderful opportunity to prayerfully reflect on the Passion of Jesus Christ. The Stations are distributed around the Fremantle Campus, and the act of walking from one to the next allows for a unique communal journey of reflection."

In 2013, the University will also be holding other events for staff, students and community members during the Lenten period.

Each Tuesday leading up to the Easter weekend, Notre Dame will host Plunge-In – an event where students and community members can sip on a coffee and network with the Campus Ministry team.

An event which will discuss key aspects of the Catholic faith, Catholic 101, is taking place on 6 March in the Notre Dame's Chapel of the Holy Spirit.

"Easter is a time that unites all Christians. It is wonderful that we are able to share our unique Stations with the community and to promote their significance in the life of the Church," Mr Brown said.

"We look forward to welcoming all to our Campus for these special events on the University's calendar."
