Abstract

A record 2,500 people attended the weekend’s graduation ceremonies at the Fremantle Campus of The University of Notre Dame Australia.

The ceremonies included the awarding of 524 testamurs to graduates in the Colleges of Arts, Business, Education, Health, Law, Nursing, Science and Technology, and Theology.

His Grace, Archbishop, Barry Hickey, the Catholic Archbishop of Perth, was principal celebrant at Saturday evening’s Graduation Mass. Among the co-celebrants were Fathers Andrew Bowron and Gavin Gomez, who had been ordained the week before and were also graduands, being awarded the degree of Masters of Arts – Theological Studies. Archbishop Hickey received special recognition with the conferral of an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws in recognition of his outstanding leadership to the Church in Western Australia, and his exceptional service to the University.

Geraldine Kelly was the Valedictorian, having achieved a grade point average of 3.96 out of a possible 4. Ms Kelly pursued her academic studies after working successfully for 18 years in the banking industry. Notre Dame Vice Chancellor, Dr Peter Tannock, AO, said, “The continuing growth of the University is reflected in the record numbers of graduands at these ceremonies. They are a diverse and talented group of graduates entering an array of professions. On behalf of the University’s Trustees I congratulate each of them.”
