Abstract

The release of the 2012 edition of the Good Universities Guide to Australian Universities and Private Colleges has seen The University of Notre Dame Australia (Notre Dame) awarded five star ratings for the fifth year in a row.

Notre Dame has consistently achieved five stars in the areas of Teaching Quality and Graduate Satisfaction with the 2012 edition also acknowledging the strength of the University’s Entry Flexibility as five stars.

Three new categories for Domestic Graduates: Teaching Quality, Generic Skills and Overall Satisfaction, each earned a five star rating.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Celia Hammond, said she was delighted with the ratings Notre Dame had received from this highly influential publication.

“The consistency of these significant results in the areas of Teaching Quality and Graduate Satisfaction is testament to the commitment of our outstanding staff.

“We are delighted to also achieve a five star rating for our Entry Flexibility. Our admissions process is a distinctive characteristic of Notre Dame.

While all admitted students have achieved very high scores in the Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranking or its equivalent, additional selection criteria ensure all students are committed to their study with us. As part of the selection process, applicants provide a personal statement to support why they want to study at Notre Dame, and each undertakes an interview to ensure their goals and needs are understood prior to commencement.

This begins the pastoral care of our students which continues through to graduation and beyond.” Professor Hammond explains.

Pastoral care is at the heart of Notre Dame’s Objects. These specify the provision of university education within a context of Catholic faith and values; the provision of an excellent standard of teaching; scholarship and research; training for the professions and pastoral care for its students.

The Good Universities Guide, now in its 20th edition, rates a university’s performance on a broad range of indicators and is the first port-of-call for students and institutions Australia wide seeking in-depth information on higher education facilities throughout the country.

The University of Notre Dame Australia follows the tradition and practices of Catholic higher education which, for centuries has offered leadership in university education. With campuses in Broome, Fremantle and Sydney, Notre Dame is committed to a personalised education, underpinned by pastoral care and support for all its students.
