Abstract

Medicine students were awarded for their academic achievements recently when The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Fremantle Campus held their annual awards ceremonies for the School of Medicine.

The highest achieving students were awarded for their achievements in 2008 as well as awards for commitment to service in return for learning, best student in the discipline of obstetrics and gynaecology and the Vice Chancellor’s Award.

The ceremonies were attended by medicine students and the awards recipients’ families, School of Medicine staff and invited guests, including Associate Professor Gary Geelhoed from the Australian Medical Association Western Australia (WA), Hon Kevin Hammond and Michael Shannahan from the Knights of Malta, Professor Max Kamien from RACGP WA Faculty and Dr Michael Tandon from the Catholic Doctors Association.

A morning tea was held after the ceremony for the prize-winners and the presenters.

Dr Gavin Frost, Dean, School of Medicine commented, “All our students are quite exceptional people. But from time to time individual students shine, in community service or in academic achievement.”

“These award ceremonies are our opportunity to recognise these students, to reflect on their outstanding achievements, and to provide even more motivation, if needed, for the rest of us.”
