The article offers information on the basic concepts of osteoarthritis (OA). It states that OA is the most common form of arthritis and a leading cause of disability and diminish quality of life among retired and working persons. It notes that OA is believed to be caused by gene defects, biomechanical and occupational factors and obesity. It notes that one predictor of progression in knee OA is malalignment.
