Letters sent by the Commandant of King George’s Sound, 1829 to 1830

Letters sent by the Commandant of King George’s Sound, 1829 to 1830

This ledger sets out the quantity and use of items at King George Sound between 3 December 1829 and March 1830 when Captain Collet Barker was commanding officer. It also tabulates  ‘improvements’ made at the post during the period, such as land made arable by clearing and ploughing and structures erected for men’s accommodation and stores. Tables also exist detailing the population – officers, non-commissioned men and their families, male convicts and Aboriginal people residing at the post – trials for disobedience, and a list of convicts updated at various times to include details of escape and recapture.
