Abstract

This benchmarking study examined current physiotherapy staff allocation in designated cardiorespiratory areas of Australian public tertiary hospitals and compared it with staff level desired by senior physiotherapy leaders. A questionnaire was developed to collect data from the physiotherapy clinical leaders on hospital bed numbers, physiotherapy staffing [Fulltime Equivalent (FTE)] and levels and average daily occasions of service within the cardiorespiratory areas.
