Abstract
In this article, on the two hundredth anniversary of priestly ministry, we shall begin with the hopes for pastoral care of the convicts of the First Fleet that were denied. The denial was symptomatic of the prevailing mercantile and strategic objectives in establishing the new colony at Botany Bay.
