Abstract
As Australian nurses living and working in the “lucky country” we are constantly looking for ways to improve practice and outcomes for patients or clients. Most would agree that our profession is committed to this aim; from the education of student nurses, to the support and encouragement of the professional development of registered nurses throughout their careers. We live in a patriarchal society with issues of power and privilege continuing to impact on women across their life span. Women’s health remains a relevant and important area of concern for all health professionals (Furze et al 2008). It is fair to say that while much has been achieved there remains a long way to go.
